# Support — TikTalk - Timer

Need help with the app? [**Learn more about the app**](https://lostendfound.com/tiktalk-timer) or browse the support documentation below.

## About the App

TikTalk - Timer is a minimal macOS menu bar timer. It lives entirely in your menu bar (no dock icon), accepts natural language input, runs multiple timers at once, and comes with built-in presets for Pomodoro, breaks, and tea. Open the popover with a click or with ⌘⇧T from anywhere.

## Getting Started

1. Download TikTalk - Timer from the Mac App Store
2. Click the timer icon in your menu bar, or press ⌘⇧T, to open the popover
3. Type a duration — for example `**25m**`, `**1h30m**`, `**90s**`, or `**tea 3 minutes**` — and press Return
4. The active timer counts down in your menu bar (e.g. `**☕ 3:42**`)
5. Right-click the menu bar icon to pause, resume, stop, or reset without opening the popover

## Features

### Natural Language Input

TikTalk - Timer understands a variety of input formats:

- `**25m**` — 25 minute countdown
- `**1h30m**` — 1 hour 30 minute countdown
- `**90s**` — 90 second countdown
- `**tea 3 minutes**` — 3 minute countdown labelled "Tea" 🍵
- `**pomodoro 25m**` — 25 minute countdown labelled "Pomodoro" 🍅
- `**stopwatch**` or `**sw**` — stopwatch (counts up)

### Multiple Timers

- **Run as many as you need:** each timer tracks independently
- **Menu bar display:** the most urgent active timer shows in the menu bar
- **Notifications:** each timer plays a sound and posts a macOS notification when it completes

### Presets

- **Built-in:** Pomodoro 25m, Short Break 5m, Long Break 15m, Tea 4m
- **Custom presets:** click the ⭐ icon to manage presets; tap any preset to start it immediately
- **Stored locally:** custom presets are saved on your Mac and never leave the device

### Controls

- **Left-click** menu bar icon — toggle the popover
- **Right-click** menu bar icon — context menu (pause, resume, stop, reset)
- **⌘⇧T** — global hotkey to toggle the popover from anywhere

## Frequently Asked Questions

### Q: Does TikTalk - Timer need an internet connection?

A: No. The app is fully offline. It makes no network requests.

### Q: Where is my data stored?

A: Custom presets and preferences are stored locally on your Mac inside the App Sandbox container. Nothing is uploaded or synced.

### Q: Can I change the global hotkey?

A: Not yet. ⌘⇧T is the only global hotkey in version 1.0. Configurable hotkeys are on the roadmap.

### Q: Does the global hotkey require Accessibility permission?

A: TikTalk - Timer uses Carbon's RegisterEventHotKey API, so it does not require Accessibility permission to register ⌘⇧T.

### Q: Why doesn't the app have a dock icon?

A: TikTalk - Timer is designed as a menu bar utility. We set `**LSUIElement**` in the app's Info.plist so it runs entirely in the menu bar with no dock presence.

### Q: What Mac do I need?

A: macOS 13 Ventura or later, on any Mac (Apple Silicon or Intel).

## Troubleshooting

### The global hotkey doesn't work

Another app may have already registered ⌘⇧T. Quit the conflicting app, or relaunch TikTalk - Timer after closing the conflict. Configurable hotkeys are on the roadmap.

### I don't hear the completion sound

Check your system volume and make sure macOS notifications are allowed for TikTalk - Timer in System Settings → Notifications.

### A preset I added isn't showing up

Presets are stored per-user inside the App Sandbox container. If the preset was added in a different macOS user account, it won't appear in this one. Try quitting and relaunching the app.
