About the App

SideClaw is a native macOS sidebar chat app for OpenClaw. It slides in from the right edge of your screen — like Notification Centre, but for AI. It supports markdown rendering, code blocks, streaming responses, session management, and cron job scheduling.

Getting Started

1. Download SideClaw from the Mac App Store
2. Launch the app — it appears as an icon in your menu bar (no Dock icon)
3. Click the menu bar icon or press ⌘+Shift+E to open the sidebar
4. Configure your OpenClaw gateway endpoint in Settings
5. Start chatting — the sidebar slides in from the right edge of your screen

Using the Sidebar

Opening and Closing

• Global hotkey: Press ⌘+Shift+E from any app to toggle the sidebar
• Menu bar: Click the SideClaw icon in your status bar
• The sidebar slides in from the right edge with a smooth animation

Chat Features

• Markdown rendering: Responses are rendered with full markdown support
• Code blocks: Syntax-highlighted code blocks with copy button
• Streaming: See responses stream in real-time

Session Management

• Create new conversations or switch between existing ones
• Sessions are saved locally on your Mac
• Pick up any conversation where you left off

Model & Thinking Level

• Choose your preferred model from the picker
• Adjust thinking level for quick answers vs deep reasoning
• Settings persist per session or globally

Cron Jobs

• Schedule recurring AI prompts to run on a schedule
• Manage all cron jobs from the sidebar interface
• View results of past scheduled runs

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is my chat data sent to your servers?

A: No. SideClaw communicates only with your OpenClaw gateway. We have no servers and never see your data. See our Privacy Policy for details.

Q: Can I change the global hotkey?

A: The default hotkey is ⌘+Shift+E. Custom hotkey configuration may be available in a future update.

Q: What macOS version is required?

A: macOS 15.0 (Sequoia) or later.

Q: Is this a subscription?

A: No. SideClaw is a one-time purchase of $9.99. No subscription, no recurring fees.

Q: Does SideClaw work without OpenClaw?

A: SideClaw requires an OpenClaw gateway to function. It is a native macOS frontend for the OpenClaw platform.

Q: Why is there no Dock icon?

A: SideClaw is designed as a menu bar app to stay out of your way. It lives in your status bar and the sidebar slides in only when you need it.

Troubleshooting

Sidebar not appearing

Make sure your OpenClaw gateway is running and accessible. Check the gateway URL in Settings. Try pressing ⌘+Shift+E or clicking the menu bar icon.

App doesn't appear in menu bar

SideClaw runs as a menu bar app (no Dock icon). Look for the icon in your status bar at the top-right of the screen. If your menu bar is crowded, the icon may be hidden — try using Bartender or similar to manage menu bar items.

Streaming not working

Ensure your OpenClaw gateway supports streaming responses and that your network connection to the gateway is stable.
