About the App
Floating OpenClaw Chat is a macOS menu bar application that provides a floating chat bubble for instant AI conversations through your OpenClaw gateway. Chat with your AI assistant without leaving your current app.
Getting Started

- Ensure your OpenClaw gateway is running locally
- Launch Floating OpenClaw Chat

Configuring the Gateway Connection
The app connects to your local OpenClaw gateway via WebSocket. By default, it looks for the gateway at:

- You can configure the gateway URL in the app settings
Using the Floating Bubble
The floating bubble stays on top of all your windows:
- Click the bubble: Opens the chat panel
- Drag the bubble: Reposition it anywhere on screen
- Cmd+Shift+O: Global shortcut to toggle the chat panel
- The bubble position is remembered between sessions
Managing Chat Sessions
You can work with multiple chat sessions:
- Use the dropdown menu to switch between sessions
- Create new sessions for different topics or projects
- Each session maintains its own conversation history
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: The app won't connect to my gateway
A: Make sure your OpenClaw gateway is running. Check that:
- The gateway is started and accessible
- The gateway URL in settings matches your actual gateway address
- No firewall is blocking local connections
- The gateway is configured to accept WebSocket connections
Q: Can I change the keyboard shortcut?
A: The default shortcut is Cmd+Shift+O. You can configure this in the app settings if you need a different key combination.
Q: The bubble disappeared, how do I get it back?
A: Look for the OpenClaw icon in your menu bar. Click it to access the menu and reset the bubble position, or use the global keyboard shortcut.
Q: Is my conversation data private?
A: Yes. All communication happens locally between the app and your OpenClaw gateway. No data is sent to external servers. See our Privacy Policy for more details.
Q: What macOS version is required?
A: The app requires macOS 12.0 (Monterey) or later.
Q: Does the app work without an internet connection?
